Satoru Abe
Born in Honolulu in 1926, Satoru Abe studied at the
Art Students League in New York, 1948-1950, and the
Sculpture Center in New York, 1956-1969. In
1984 Abe was named a Living Treasure of Hawaii by
the Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin. He received a
National Endowment for the Arts artiest-in-residence
grant, 1970, and a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation
Fellowship, 1963.
